Is braces spacing out your teeth normal?!

Question: Ok, i got braces two weeks ago and they have been going fine and i haven't really minded them much. Except, i began to see some space in between my two front teeth that i never had before. I thought braces were supposed to straighten your teeth and help them come together not do the opposite. Is this normal? And if so, why is this happening? Is it temporary?

OMG yes this happened to me don't worry my gap was absolutely MASSIVE! felt horrible but no one notices it as much as you do. its normal and it's happened to everyone i know. if your mouth is crowded the braces will push your teeth out before they start to pull them into a straight line.

my gap is completely gone now so don't worry it will go away!

its completely normal, my front teeth also had a space to, from what i figured, they are pulling the teeth apart so they can be straightened and then put back

It depends upon your age and what the Orthodontist is attempting to do.

If you need space for adult teeth then it is normal.

braces are used to straighten teeth (obviously). Sometimes the orthodontist needs to make room so that you can reorient the direction of your teeth growth.

Yeah, this happened to me too, and I got scared! Because I never had a space between my two front teeth. But it is normal because your teeth are adjusting. The ortho will put special elastics on your brackets to close the space up, my space is gone now.

YES! They do this until your orthodontist puts on a CHAIN which is what pulls your teeth together. Mine got SO much further apart and I was so relieved when my orth. said it was time to put on a chain lol. But yeah completely normal.
