Braces are painful when you first get them on, and afterward when they're tightened at each visit. Your teeth feel very sore and tender (since they are being pulled forcibly into a new position!) and sometimes it can be hard to chew for the first few days.

The rest of the time, they don't really hurt at all. After you've had them for a while, you'll probably forget they exist. The most annoying part most of the time is just having to avoid foods like chips that can break your braces.

The first few days with them it does hurt.... make sure u only eat soups and liquids.... but after a while there really not that bad.

braces are cool i have 23 on me right now

well i have braces for 1 year nd when u get them on it dosent but afta about 1 hour dey start 2 hurt for approx. 3-5 days but just take a pain killer and i ate scrambled egg soup and bread......hope this helps xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxx

it hurts at first but you will get used to it.

short answer - yes they hurt very badly and i wouldnt suggest anyone getting the metal kind. if you must get braces, then go for the invisible braces, because they dont require you to have cement slapped on your teeth - which can lead to stains and spots when they are finally taken off. the metal braces should just be abolished all together. they're terrible!
