What causes cold sores on your tongue, and also in the flap of your lip?!

Question: I think those are canker sores and I believe they are caused by bacteria. keep your mouth clean and use mouth wash.

edit* I know there are products you can get to actually numb and protect the area. I'd suggest going to your local super market and taking a look or ask a pharmacist.

Hi, I'm a dentist.

Cold sores are herpetic lesions, commonly found around the corners of the lips. Canker sores (or aphthous ulcers) are the lesions found in the mouth. The are idiopathic (no known cause).

I hope that helps.
