Answers:

3 tabs(200 mg. each) of ibuprofen with 2 tabs of Tylenol (200 mg. each) take together---this combination of meds will help relieve the pain ---do this every 6 hours until the pain calms down --

On Monday call your Orthodontist for help with perhaps a pain prescription---IF it does not go away, but it should---the above Ibuprofen w/Tylenol combination should do the trick.

Your mouth should calm down once you have gotten over the initial shock of the pressure from the 1st 2 days of wearing the appliance. Sounds like yours is a fixed appliance and they are intending to expand your arch.

Keep drinking water and try to eat your regular meals that include a protein block---staying hydrated and eating regularly will also help with the healing process of the movement (pressure) you are currently undergoing in your mouth.

Rest --- Remember that Tylenol is the dangerous drug you should not take too much of too close together ---must follow the 6 hour rule.

Regarding the device that will be used regularly to expand the arch: DON'T worry about the intense pain -- this device that will expand your arch should NOT cause you the current pain you are experiencing---What we have heard from our dental patients is that the 1st couple of days of the initial placement of the retainer was the worst-- then the regular adjustments to expand the arch was not painful---only slight pressure was expereinced.
