What kind of things should I put into a care package for a kid with new braces?!

Question: My daughter's friend is getting braces this week and we'd like to put together a little care package for her -- things she may find useful and some fun stuff too. I've never had braces so I don't know what kind of things to get. Obviously, I won't be getting her a water pick or anything essential that her parents will be getting.

Any other ideas? Snack foods that are easy to eat for her at first, items to make her more comfortable, whatever you'd think a kid with braces would find helpful and maybe a little fun.

Thanks!!

Well, this is coming from a person who has braces....!!!

When i first got my braces, i liked eating soft mush. Things such as tinned fruit, purreed things and yoghurt were perfect. Anything that requires chewing is quite painful. Soft, thin oatcakes are good, because you can let them turn to mush in your mouth.

In appliances, i would get her a small, pipecleaner like toothbrush, called a interdental toothbrush. They work wonders. Also, plaque tablets could be fun to use - as well as telling you where to brush more thouroughly.

The dentist will most likely give her a pack with brochures, wax, and a few other things.

Maybe a portable handbag mirror could be handy - you do sometimes get food stuck in your braces!

Also, you can get special floss at a chemist that is really good for cleaning between braces. I found that really handy - especially when eating mango seeds, oranges, etc.

You don't really need too much for braces.

Hope this helps!

I've never been asked this kind of question before, so I am trying to figure out something that might help.
I think an electric tooth brush with a fine rotating tip can make a great gift, she can clean her braces easily with that, you can find something for around $30-40, Oral b is a good brand. you can include children's toothpaste with the brush.
she might benefit from a fluoride mouthwash as well, it will help reinforce her teeth for the time she is in braces, ACT is an example.
I saw once a bunny with brackets on it's 2 front teeth, that looked so nice and funny, it was on eBay, I still regret not buying it, but if you find something similar, she will love it for sure.
I hope there is an orthodontist here who can step in and help, they know better than me for sure.
Hope that helped.

Pudding and jello will be good snacks to put in. They will still be easy to eat even after a few hours after getting the braces as well as after each adjustment. Brush pics are a useful tool. If she's old enough for lip gloss or lip balm, that would be a good option. And fi I knew where my orthodontist got this one picture he has hanging on the wall it would be a great one. The pic is of eight different Looney Tunes characters wearing braces (even Tweety and Road Runner) with Bugs Bunny in the center wearing dentist's scrubs.
I admit I'm kinda struggling with coming up with ideas. I'm 29 and am getting braces today. She's lucky to get her braces out of the way right now (and having her parents paying for it, lol).

o1;;some good flavored floss
o2;;jello/pudding
o3;;origel
o4;;chapstick
