Root canal experinces.................!

Question: i just found out i have to have a root canal today :(

im only 15 and i was really scared when they tried to do the first treatment today whil;e i was in the chair..... it hurt so much [like an electric shock] when i was in the chair and they were doing the needle... i screamed and sat up and i couldnt stop crying enough for them to do it at all today

they sent me away with nothing to help ease the pain i have been having and i cant even clench my teeth now.... :(... and its all because last yr a dentist screwed up this simple filling... she is no longer in practice now!!!

i just want to know what ur experinces have been with root canals and what treatments out of the five you had hurt the most?

it isnt that bad, as long as they numb ya. the aorst part is the numbing shots, you just get a jolt of sharp pain, but its gone in a flash. just take an ipod or something with you to drown out the drilling and close ur eyes if ur nervous. the after math is a lil bit of tingling, and if u got what i got, ur upper lip looks awful for 3-4 hrs. if ur in pain and want the swellign to stop, put an ice pack on the swelling and if ur in pain take a tylnol and lie down. i just ogt one an hour ago, and i shouldnt be on the computer so gud bye

My mom has had three- one busted out a few years later, another one they didnt get the root so it always hurts, and the other one did just fine. I had one, it lasted about three years then just fell apart one night. My husbands grandpa has had some for years.... I think they are a pain in the *** and I would not get another one. Better to pull and get an implant.... at least it is there forever and PAIN FREE!!!

Root canals are not that bad... they just take a long time. To be honest, at 15, it is very rare to have to have a root canal. You might need to go see someone else and be sure that is what you need.

Waisted is right about getting an implant instead... especially at your age. An implant will last until the day you die.

Just back from the dentist .........ughMy rootcanals were expensive but painless coz i was given two anesthetias................but i swear the gums had to be cleaned and boy.it was terrible...............wait till you get to the gums part now

I heard the hurt

yeah, i've had two root canals. 3 of my teeth have this tube thing that can snap off and easily get infected. Two on the bottom have gotten where it hurt insanely to get water or food touching it. The root canals take forever and the anesthetic injection thing is pretty annoying.
The top tooth that doesnt have the tube thing got cracked. Now when i eat chocolate if any gets onto it it hurts like hell until i can get water to clean it.

Wisdoms are worse i guess. They had to break them in half before pulling. Once again, only the bottom ones pulled so far :P

Honestly...My only bad experience was when I was like 6 yrs old...Bad dentist hurt me and didn't care that I was crying, and really screwed up my teeth. I just had 3 of my wisdom teeth removed about 3 hrs ago, and I already feel pain. Root canals are easy...I've had a lot. If you get the right dentist...they will be kind and gentle, and definitely send you home with pain meds. Don't know if this will help, but don't let one experience dominate your feelings towards dentists.

Mine didn't hurt at all...and I brought my ipod.

I've had six of them and they really aren't that bad. One of them was performed without anasthesia because the dentist suspected I had a hollow chamber. After he drilled into the tooth, he told me that he could see all the way to the end of the root. The tooth was completely hollow. I never felt any pain. The only symptom I had with this tooth was that it was a bit discolored.
