Hi, I'm a dentist.

If a bit of root was left in the socket, two things could happen. It could cause no problems and just become encapsulated in the bone as the socket heals. On the other hand it could become a locus of infection and need to be removed before your socket will heal completely.

I hope that helped.

It will work its way out by itself believe it or not.
Not to worry.

Ask and tell your dentist, maybe they missed some? maybe there is another mysterious tooth?

The dentist should do it free of cost, it usually happens when they do a dodgey job.

If you have any concerns, your best bet is to call the dentist and let him know so that he can tell you whether or not it's a normal feeling.

Sometimes they do. If your tooth was cracked. Follow the dentist instructions and take the medicines .It will work its way out.

I'm sure your dentist was careful and removed the root tips. If the root tip had been left, you wouldn't know it unless you saw it on an x ray. In most cases where a root tip was accidentally left, the tip abscessed causing pain and infection. In other cases, especially when the tooth had a prior root canal, the extraction site healed leaving the root tip intact without causing any problems. In any event, the root tips should be removed to prevent the possibilities of any recurring infection or future problems.
