Cannot remove immediate dental flipper after extractions!!?!

Question: 2 days ago I had my front four teeth extracted and a flipper put in immediately. I was told to keep it in until the following evening and then take it our for a bit. I tried to remove it last night but it hurts SOOOOO bad... There is one spot that is extremely painful when I pull on the flipper. I have tried off and on all day today and it is still incredibly painful. So... I have not been able to get it out yet. Is it due to swelling? This was Monday afternoon when the extractions were done. it is now Wednesday evening. Should I be really worried?

Well, you need to take it off. It hurts because your gingiva is swollen and probably a little beat up, and the pressure of the flipper is pushing down on it.
I would recommend:
1. Take some Ibuprofen. It will help to decrease the swelling.
2. Rinse with warm salt water. This will loosen up your tissues and help relax them.
3. Try to get the flipper out again.
4. If these don't work, call your dentist. They can help you.

It is important to get it out because otherwise food can get trapped under it and make it 1) more swollen and 2) prevent healing of the other extraction sites. Try what I said and see if it helps.

The Dentist that I worked for would tell the patient to come back the next day to have HIM remove the flipper & make adjustments. The patient would always feel relieved afterwards.

It sounds like you swelled alot after it went in. It should come out, but will be difficult to get back in for exactly the same reason. Go back to see the dentist so you can get numbed, get it out and cleaned (it could cause a huge infection if it's left in) and adjusted so it will fit back in. Most dentists can place a "soft reline material" which is way more comfortable getting the appliance in and out.
