As an specialist Orthodontist, I have to say that when patients come back to me and say their teeth have moved, after some questioning I tend to find out that they haven't worn their retainers as I have advised them. They forget to take the retainer on holiday or loose them for a week or so etc. etc. An Orthodontist can also tell from your retainers and moulds if you have worn your retainers properly.

My standard advice is full time for 1 week then night times there after long term. It is the only way to guarantee the teeth will stay straight long term!

However, if the teeth have moved back through no fault of your own and the teeth are crooked enough (the NHS/PCTs has brought in a criteria, stating there should be a moderate to severe problem before they will pay the Orthodontist to carry out treatment) then you should be able to qualify for NHS treatment either with that Orthodontist or another one. However, you'd have to be less than 18yrs old and take into consideration any waiting lists for treatment as well.

If not then you may need to pay for a new set of retainers or have the teeth straightened again with some new retainers to follow.

Hope that is of some help?

Good luck

I had a brace as a teen - I took it out and ended up having to wear one for an extra year! My original dentist refused to treat me though and my parents had to find a private dentist for that extra year. I was young and foolish. But it was free as I was under 16. I can't imagine that's changed if you're a minor - but if, possibly, maybe, you aren't *always* wearing it ;) you should because the extra year in school was just as embarrassing as the first >_<

you damn english with your messed up teeth

depends how old you are and where you live. in some parts of the uk nhs orthodontists only treat up to age 16, some 18. ring them and ask!
