Tooth extractions and dentures?!

Question: I was told by my dentist I need my upper teeth pulled (all), and need dentures. Will I be put to sleep for extractions? Will I have stiches? How is it like to wear dentures? Can I eat while wearing them? Do they hurt? Thanks!

There are a lot of questions that you need to be asking your dentist. Not everyone is put to sleep for extractions, many are done with local anesthetics and can be done rather painlessly. You may get stitches. Everyone is different.

Wearing dentures is hard to explain. At first they feel very large and bulky. Your mouth will need time to get used to having the foreign object in it. Your tongue will now have to share space with this thing. You will feel awkward at first and with time you will get used to it, your speech may be off slightly at first also.

Eating will be somewhat of a challenge at first also. Not everyone has these experiences. You will start with soft or a liquid diet and gradually advance to real food. Sometimes this is accomplished in a few days, for some- longer.

Do not focus on the negatives that are always presented when discussing dentures. Look toward the future and how nice your smile will be.

Be prepared for many trips to the dentist for adjustments of the denture to make sure it is fitting properly.

Hang in there and feel free to ask more questions- you can also contact me off the board if you wish.

no be too scare and try to relax !! they don't put you to sleep just local , that's mind in the spot , you will feel numbness only in that side on the face, they dint do stitch unless you don't have a tooth ,means do you have a only a little piece? in that case yes with stitches, yeah you will avail. to eat but careful , dint eat nothing hard. and i dint think they hurt , you will get used too , good luck !!

Yes you would be asleep for that and stitches are sometimes used to tidy up the gums after extractions. Dentures are very easy and unnoticeable to both the wearer and their appearance. Standard procedure is to fit them and after a few minutes they file a little for the best fit if required. Walla ! your ready for the world. If you use some fixodent it'll seem as though you should have had this done years ago, its that natural and confident a feeling.

Fairly major stuff so they may well suggest you have gas. I would certainly want to be put to sleep if it was me. Don't worry about it. I've had gas for dental work before and it's really nice.

Never had dentures so can't comment.
