Is a 9 year old too young for braces? What does MetLife Dental cover towards bra!

Question: Our dentist referred us to an orthodontist for a consult, his teeth (the ones next to the front top teeth, sorry don't know their name) are very crooked. When he bites down one of them goes between two bottom teeth, the other one in not in all the way but you can see it is just as crooked. He also has a little bit of an overbite. The bottom teeth are also crooked and the he had a panoramic xray and his bottom canines (have not come in yet) are at an angle / \ , pointing inward kind of like that.
The orthodontist wants to put an expander in, and then in a couple of months put braces on his front teeth. Will this be to any benifit at such a young age? He only has 8 adult teeth at this point. Will he need brace again when he is older?
What is an estimated cost of braces, we have Metlife Dental and we are in Ohio if that matters.

two of the above people are wrong about waiting to get them when baby teeth are all gone.

9 years old is a good age. Most Orthodontists agree that six or seven or even nine is a good age for your child's first orthodontic examination. Conditions may be found that can be corrected at this early age by interceptive measures. This often will lessen or eliminate the need for help at an older age. That in turn can be a savings in the total cost of your child's orthodontic correction.

Please dont wait until your child has lost all of his/her baby teeth, there are definite advantages to correcting many problems at an early age. Waiting until all baby teeth are lost can often complicate an otherwise fairly simple problem. Let your orthodontist decide the best time to intercept or correct your child's orthodontic problem.

But don't wait for an examination at a later age, its highly recommended you see one now for an examination if you plan on getting braces for your child. trust me.

He may not need braces again when he is older in your case if he is able to get them at a younger age, teeth tend to come out straighter with the due of less crowding and aligned bone tissue of even baby teeth.

an estimated cost of braces in the US can range from $3000-$5000 for a child, but a teenager would be from $4000-$6000. insurance can cover braces, if your insurance covers it, we cannot tell you what your own insurance plan offers torwards the benefits of braces, try calling your insurance and asking about it.

I had a friend, in 1st grade he had braces. So 9 is the ideal time to get braces.

you need to contact Metlife to find out exactly what your plan covers and ask them exactly what you asked here.

no one on this site will be able to answer this question without knowledge of your specific insurance plan.

the member services # should be somewhere on your ID card.

no,nine is two young because the teeth is still growing and when she gets them tooken of they will move more..pointless

If he has lost all of his baby teeth then he is old enough for braces
