I've had my braces for about 8 months now. I will admit that the first week and possible a few days after your gums will be sore and you just have to deal with it. After that, your teeth will have loosened and when you return to get your braces tightened, it won't be as bad. From what my orthodontist told me, the first week isn't as bad on children because their teeth are still shifting compared to adults, whose teeth have settled permenantly and takes more force to loosen them.

As for the recommendations you asked for, my orthodontist told me to alternate between Tylenol (acetaminophen) and ibuprofen EVERY 2 HOURS. I thought every twp hours was a bit much, but he told me that for the first 2-3 days, that would be fine. My second recommendation would be to eat ONLY soft foods... I ate mashed potatoes, applesauce, and sherbet for the first week. I was worn out on it, but they were soft foods. Also, my orthodontist told me that I could rinse my mouth with WARM SALT WATER every hour. That helped quite a bit when I did it on a regular. Also, I'm not sure if you were given a "mouth piece/guard". It's just a thin, flat piece of plastic that's in the shape of a U. Anytime you feel tightness, you are supposed to place it between your teeth and constantly bite down on it for about 2 minutes at a time. You would think this hurts, but surprisingly it doesn't. The dental assistant says a lot of people don't follow this procedure because they think it's tedious, but it truly helps. It relaxes your muscles and gums, which eases then tension and stresses of the pull from the braces.

Lastly, I'm pretty sure you will have to wear rubberbands later in the treatment. I am in that stage right now, and my first day wearing the rubberbands was 2 days ago. I will admit that the pain seems to be worse than getting them the very first time only because after tightening your braces, you have rubberbands pulling your teeth together. Honestly, I haven't found anything to relieve this pain other than the prescription pain medicine that my orthodontist prescribed. The Tylenol and ibuprofen doesn't help much, but the warm salt water eases the pain just a bit. If I find anything that helps during this stage, I will update you.

it takes some getting use to. GIve teeth two weeks before they are used to the tightness of the wire. by then you feel nothing.

I have got braces. For the first week they really hurt. I would reccomend taking paracetemols for the pain. Ea soft foods like potatoe as chewing really hurts. After about 2 eeks you will be able to eat easily but will occassionaly feel pain when biting into things. Just stay clear of hard foods for the time being. Hope i helped.

if you mean by the way you look now dont anyone that says anything is either jealous or just trying to "get to you" ignore them and think about how straight your teeth will be. if the brackets are "catching" your cheek dental wax will help. that nasty glue taste can be fixed with a coke.

ive had braces for about a year knw and now i forget there even there, they are horrible for the first few days but after around 2 weeks they shud not makin u feel uncomfortable however they will rubb at the start but should soon calm down, if the wire starts diggin in go bak 2 ur orthadontic/dentist 2 get it fixd also u cud use the wax to help the rubbing.
hope u feel more comfortable soon :)

well take panadol that should help also keep using the gum stuff they give to stop your gums from getting cut
also avoid eating any hard foods or banging your teeth together ( that really hurts )
it will b weird for a while but you'll get used to them
i'm getting mine off in a month i can't wait but i've the opposite problem i kinda like having them now...i know that sounds crazy but i will miss them i think?? but i can see a huge difference my teeth are so straight all of my friends want them now!
don't worry after a while you'll forget you have them

i agree with the first person nothing you can do they felt weird for me too like less space inside my mouth but not to worry buddy soon you won't even notice them

I got my braces on last week and it feelt really wierd but you'll get used to them i can't even tell that i wear them now, unless i think about it or smile. (i smile really big)

the hurting depends on the person.... me? i wanted to bang my face against my locker.... eat softer foods, with potien, because meet is a rare option with pain..... but, i know you moving your lips over your new braces, it weird, your like, what's on my teeth?!@? but if you don't have any cuts in your mouth from the braces, you should forget that you have them... or at least i do...

place wax on the tooth that hurts you.
if you do not have you should ask your ortho
to give you some. its normal for it to feel
uncomfortable the first time but then youll get used
to it. Dont worry.

i have braces too and when i first got them it hurt alot and bothered me but i got used to it. so all ill say is dont worry. what you should do is your dentist should have given you some wax to put on the bracket that is bothering you. and the soreness that its giving you will subside in about 2-3 days. all you should do is relax , eat soft foods , and to avoid sticky foods[ex: candy]

hope i helped you[: feel betterr :D

I am 21 and i have braces since one and a half year. Its worth it tho believe me.
