Becoming a Dentist?!

Question: It's kind of early for me to decide but I am a sophomore and I am wondering a few things about becoming a Dentist.

1. Does anyone know any certain classes I should take with the remaining time in high school?

2. How many years in college will I be spending? Dental school?

Those are the only questions that come in mind as of now...Oh and if an experienced Dentist is reading this, tell me if it's worth it. lol

Hi, I'm a dentist.

You should be taking the most advanced science courses you have available in high school.

Before you can go to dental school, medical school, law school, etc., you will need to complete the required prerequisite coursework in college, which usually means completing a 4 year bachelor's degree program. Your major doesn't matter, but your overall GPA and your GPA in your prerequisite courses (mostly science and math) will also be very important for admission.

Dental school itself is another 4 years, for a total of 8 years of college.

YES, it's worth it. Dentistry is a fantastic, very rewarding profession, in many regards.

Good luck.

I work at a dental school, so I hope I'm in a good position to answer this-
1. As far as HS goes, it really doesn't matter what classes you take. Dental school comes after you get your 4-year bachelor's degree, so getting your BS in biology wouldn't hurt.
2. Dental school is usually 4 years (after your 4 year bachelor's program), but if you choose to get further training in a particular field (orthodontics, periodontics, etc), you'd be looking at a 2-3 year residency after dental school.
Good luck.

chemistry and biology advanced. Maybe maths too

Get as many classes in science as you can, as you will have to have a science major in college & in Dental school you will have to study hard & have good grades as there are no average students admitted!! Competition get rough fore you finish, just hang in there!! DMD here
