Denture pain?!

Question:

Denture pain?

Help!!!
I just had 8 teeth pulled and paid a humongous amout of money for an immediate denture. My problem is because of the trauma and bleeding from the tooth pulling I took the immediate denture out. Now I cannot put it back in with out horrible pain. Went back to my dentist and he worked on the denture but it is still too painful to put back in my mouth. the dentist says now I will have to wear an adhesive(probly because of the trimming he did). When I get my permanent dentures do you think I will still need an adhesive? Should I just wait until the swelling and pain has ceased before trying them again? I beleive each time I try to put them in it causes more trauma. I know I need to adjust but the pain is not worth it. I have not had real food in 3 days. Do the new adhesive no mess strips and wafers work? I know these are a lot of questions to ask but I need some comfort and food. By the way the dentist says my gums are healing well no infection.

Answers:

I know it hurts, but the idea is to wear the denture so as u heal the tissue and bone will heal in the same shape as the denture. If u leave it out it might not fit as well, but if it hurts that bad u might have to wait a few days now before u can get it back in. They should reline the denture in about 8 weeks anyways so it fits better. That was probably included in your fee. If u heal well they may be able to reline them in 4-6 weeks.
