How big a job is having your wisdom teeth out? How much time off work, and how p!

Question: Usually it is not that bad. It is a good thing to have done on Friday, then you have the weekend to recuperate(that is, if you do not work weekends). You should be fine by Monday.

If this is not an option, then at least, day off for surgery, day off after to rest. Ask the Oral Surgeon who is extracting the teeth how long you should rest.

As for painful, most of the time they put you under sedation, so the extraction part is not painful . When mine were extracted, the teeth were under bone, so it was difficult to remove. I felt no pain during surgery and none after. They gave me pain medication, so that helped. Nothing extreme.

If you are having them removed without sedation, they shouldn't be impacted then, and you should be fine.

Hint- if you smoke- DO NOT SMOKE AFTER SURGERY! you might get what they call dry socket. It is very painful, worse than any toothache you could ever have.
Follow your Doctors orders and you should be fine.

Good Luck!

Mine weren't painful at all. It was done in just a few minutes, and If I were working I could have gone right back to work after it was done.

They did give me a prescription for pain pills but I didn't even have to fill it.

when i got mine out, i was out of commission for about three days, but if i had had to work on the second or third day after, i could have. use LOTS of ice right after you get them out to avoid swelling. the procedure itself only takes 45 minutes (with laughing gas...getting knocked out might take longer) and doesn't hurt at all; the only part that hurts is after the novocaine wears off, so you have to take painkillers as directed. after two days, it only aches a little. definitely use the painkillers, or it will really hurt.

it is a big job, thats why its important to go to a good dental office and make sure you get some feedback from others about the dentist who will be doing it.

i dont want to scare you but when i had mine done, i ended up with both dry sockets, which is very painful, it happens when the dentist neglects to do a careful extraction. if they rush the job, it will lead to the blood clots not forming, and you end up with a lot of pain and sensitivity. in my case, the dentist did all my 4 teeth in less than an hour. make sure the dentist you go to will not rush and knows what they are doing! aside from that, it is not too terrible. the first few days are uncomfortable. for me, it was supposedly a rare case. most patients dont get dry socket if they go to a good dentist and follow the rules afterwards. no eating hard foods etc. as it can interfere with the healing process. you might need to take off about 2 or 3 days from work as the first few days might be bad. it would be a good idea to get an appointment close to the weekend - like wednesday. that way you can take off weds, thurs, and fri, and still have two more days to recover. good luck

taken out in about one hour under anastetic verry painfull back towork in two days
