When I get my retainer, will it give me a permanent lisp?!

Question: Ok, im a little ahead of myself here, but..
Yesterday my ortho. told me its time for me to get braces :(
And ever since then ive been freaking out, thats why i keep asking braces/retainer questions! Well im getting my braces sometime in april i think, and i dont know how long im gonna need them yet, but I know that after you get braces taken off you get a retainer. Does a retainer give you a lisp?? And if it does, will it be permanent?? Im so scared i dont want a lisp.. i mean for a little while its ok but I dont want it to be permanent... :(

You will have a lisp while you wear it, but not when you take it out, so when you feel like not having it in you can take it out for special occasions. But after you don't need it anymore, it will go away. It will not be permanent. Don't worry, you will be fine.

yea, and people will judge you and you'll lose all your friends..that's what happened to me at least..

not nessecarily. I have a retainer but i do not have a lisp. on the other hand, i have a friend that has a perminent retainer and she has a lisp. it realy depends on what kind of retainer you are getting
