Ok, a bit gross I know, but every time I use Listerine...?!

Question:

Ok, a bit gross I know, but every time I use Listerine...?

A half hour or so later I get like...white stringy things in my mouth that I have to take out. Rinsing with water doesn't get rid of them; I need to use a paper towel or a cloth of some sort.

I'm on meds that give me dry mouth, too, I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Is it plaque or something? I need an answer on this because it's really irritating!

Answers:

It sounds like you may have sloughing of the oral tissue. This can be due to the alcohol that is in the Listerine. Try to avoid using alcohol-containing mouth rinses, they can tend to dry the oral tissues. A fairly new mouthwash has come out on the market called Crest ProHealth, which is excellent. It has the same beneficial qualities as Listerine, but does NOT contain alcohol.
As for your dry mouth, there is an over the counter rinse that you can buy called Oasis. Also, try drinking plenty of water or chewing gum sweetened with Xylitol, it will help the salivary glands produce saliva.
