Prevent, just do not put so much bleach in the trays. Only put a very small amount and then once the trays are inserted you can press around on the tray and cause squishing of the bleach gel to spread to the other areas of the teeth so less squishes onto the gums if you put less in the tray. Also, you can put one tiny pin spot in the tray and smear it around the tooth area of the tray before putting them in. If the gums still get bleach on them, wipe the gums. And, if you still have the problem you can apply vaseline to the gumline before putting the trays in.

If you have to do it everyday I would try doing it every other day also rinsing with warm salt water could help you gums if they are inflamed.

Try not sleeping with the trays on. The prolonged exposure to your gums is whats likely causing the soreness.
Also every other day, or just waiting until your gums aren't sore any more to continue might be a good idea.

there are two things that can make your gums hurt, the bleaching trays may be too good a fit and rub against your gums making them tender your dentist can trim this. or the bleaching gel is irritating you try using a little less, the trays are made normally very neat as they tend to fit very well so there is very little room for the gel, so when you add the gel it can seep out and hence cause the irritation,
or on the other hand that you may not have considered is that as your teeth are looking so good you are subconsciously brushing harder to keep them like that, and that can irritate the gums too.
