Post-Op Questions?!

Question:

Post-Op Questions?

I had 4 wisdom teeth removed friday. How long is the numbness normally last? How long does the pain usually last?
Has anyone ever gotten a dry socket?

Answers:

Depending on the severity and length of your surgery will definitely result in healing time. Numbness only lasts depending on how much local you received. Should only be for that 3-5 hour time frame after your surgery. Dry sockets can be painful. If you have one you shouldn't be able to tell until at least 72hrs post surgery. If you have a bad throbbing headache that persists after you have had your pain meds then you need to go back and visit your surgeon. Dry socket is when the blood clot that forms over your socket from your tooth being removed is disturbed and it leaves a pathway for infection to increase. Keep your hygiene high. Make sure you are not spitting, sucking through a straw, drinking carbonated beverages or smoking! Rinse with warm salt water 24hrs post surgery to help keep infection down, and NO SPITTING!
