im going away in a few days and want whiter teeth....
i dont want to spend 500$ at the dentist to have them whitened
is 40$ 3 day white strips made by crest a good idea???

The crest white strips do work but only offer a temporary white. Your dentist can take impressions of your teeth and make custom trays for you. These along with the various strengths of bleaching solution can give you the white, bright smile that you are wanting for a lot less than the $500.00 you've mentioned. The up front cost may be higher than purchasing the white strips, but look down the road a few years at how many white strips you have to buy over the years when the custom trays are there to use anytime. The trays are always the least expensive in the long run and most definitely the most effective. I've been using mine for well over ten years and still do a touch up bleaching every few months to keep them their whitest.
Although for now it would take you longer than a few days to have the trays made, it could be something you may want to consider later. Discuss this with your dentist and check with others on the price. Some dentist offer specials prices on the trays, trying to bring new patients into their practice and they are sometimes as low as $250.00 which includes the bleaching solution. Not a bad deal, if you think about how many boxes of Crest White Strips it would take to get your teeth to the same whiteness that the trays can reach in under a week along with lasting effects.
So in answer to your question, yes, you can get your teeth whiter using the 3 day bleaching strips. But is it worth the money? In my opinion, it's not. Follow the instructions for optimal results and avoid drinking or eating anything that can stain the teeth (coffee, tea, red wine) while bleaching. Good luck and have a good trip!
