Cutting out wisdom teeth?!

Question:

Cutting out wisdom teeth?

The orthodontic surgeon said since the root of my wisdom tooth is near the nerve that gives feeling in the lip, I should have the tooth cut off instead of extracted. Otherwise, I could end up with no feelings in my lips. He said the bone would then grow beneath the gum, and the gum will heal. He also told me I will miss one whole week from work. That would be okay, because I haven't used any of my sick time yet this year.

Three weeks from today, I'm getting married, so I'd want to either get it done Monday or manage it with antibiotics until after the wedding.

What would you do?

My main question is whether anyone has heard of this?

Actually I worded this wrong. What he suggested is to cut the tooth off at the gumline as opposed to extracting it.

Thank you.

Answers:

I had all 4 of mine taken out at the same time, and I think the pain lasted less than a week. But I think it all depends on how it goes. BUT they didn't completely heal for several months - as in the holes filling in. I would probably wait until after the wedding so you don't have to be worrying about taking care of your tooth/teeth on top of everything else.
