What can help ease my Root Canal pain/stress?!

Question: I brush, floss, and rinse my teeth thoroughly, but nothing works. Now it just seems that my fight against oral decay is useless. I had a root canal done when I was about 2 and 6 people had to hold me down. I had another one done when I was 10 and 2 people had to hold me down. My parent's sucked at telling me how to brush when I was little, but I can't blame anyone but myself.
I'm 16 now and I have to have 4 root canals done. I am so incredibly scared because the last root canal traumatized me. My brother chipped my tooth today so I'm freaking out because now I have to have a filling next week and since I'm going in, the dentist wants to boost up my RC appt. to a few days from now.
Questions:
1) Is there anything else I can do (other than brushing) to prevent any more teeth from failing? and
2) Is there any way I can take my mind off the pain before, during, and after the procedure?

Brush and floss, use a fluoride rinse will help prevent further problems as well as regular cleanings and exams to catch things when they are small.
As for the procedure take some music to listen to, take an advil or aspirin before the novicane wears off. Most of all try not to be nervous, lots of people have root canals and go back to work or school the same day. You will be numb (if not ask the dentist for more) and other than having your mouth open for a long time it's not that bad. If your still a basket case and your parents will allow it ask the dentist to prescribe a valium 5mg. before the appt will help you calm down. Or ask if the dentist has nitrous oxide (laughing gas) which will help lots! It may cost more and insurance doesnt cover it, but worth the money if it relxes you.
