Revive a nerve yourself?!

Question: Is it possible to revive a nerve of a tooth yourself by massaring, or something? And is it possible to stop cavaities, and regenerate them?

Best Regards.

In a word, no. The 'nerve' of your tooth is actually the blood supply to the tooth. If your tooth gets traumatised by a knock, or from decay, the blood vessels become inflamed causing pressure, and so pain, to build up. If this inflammation goes on for too long the blood supply gets cut off and causes the tooth to die. What's left of the 'nerve' is now dead material and may lead to an abscess. There is no way back from this but to have the inside of the tooth cleaned out professionally (ie root canal treatment).

Of course, prevention is better than cure. Early decay IS reversible, and so may not need fillings - IF you get it before the tooth has cavitated. Early decay often appears as white areas/lines along the gum margins.

Sugar/acid sucks minerals out of the enamel and fluoride (especially in toothpaste) and calcium put minerals back in. If you take out more minerals than you put in you will end up with cavities. To reverse early decay make sure you are not having sweet foods too often (frequency is more important than the amount as far as teeth are concerned), drink plenty of water (avoid sweet drinks, incl juice, between meals) and brush (and FLOSS) with a fluoride toothpaste (especially before bed).

If you don't want to use fluoride, you can use a calcium/phosphate toothpaste (eg tooth mousse) but it MUST have CPP-ACP in it or it is a gimmick. This is also very effective in reversing early decay and may even restore the colour of the teeth (ie from the white of the early decay). You can use both kinds of toothpastes for extra effect, but allow at least half an hour between them.

If you already have a cavity you will still need to get it fixed. Ask around to find a dentist you feel comfortable with, get it fixed and then prevent any new cavities. Good luck.

No ,you cannot revive a nerve and yes it is possible to stop a decay by using fluoride .
