So my dentist cut my gum, and it took 8 days for the pain to go away?!

Question: Is this normal?

It took 8 days for the pain to go away. It was very painful, she cut my gum to fit a crown. Not only was it sore, and I couldnt chew on that side for 8 days, but now that the pains gone, Im noticing theres a soft spot on the inside by my gum where the temporary crown is. I just brushed that are and a small bit of blood was on the toothbrush. Is that normal?

Is it possible this tooth fragment w/ the temporary over it can get infected?

Its just a little tender with a little pain on the inside (this was a bicuspid) however why would it still hurt now.. its been almost 2 weeks.

You should ask your dentist about it. Without seeing it myself, the likely thing that is is that the gums are inflamed because of the temporary crown. Sometimes the temporary crown does not fit as well as the final crown will... it can be a little bulky at the margin which can make the gums inflamed in that area because it is more difficult to clean there. Also, if you recently had crown lengthening, that could contribute to the inflammation. Continue to clean there as best and gently as you can. Your dentist may prescribe a special kind of mouthwash depending on the situation.

make sure you brush your teeth to keep it from getting infected

You should call your dentist and address your concerns to him.

I think your question is really funny because I am going to school for dental hygiene, and on Thursday I saw my 3rd patient. I lacerated the crap out of his gums when I was scaling, luckily they have us bring in friends and family this semester!
