Had 1st Molar removed on 28/may now sore and itchy infection??!

Question:

Had 1st Molar removed on 28/may now sore and itchy infection??

I had the 1st molar removed on monday and I thought it went well, but now it is really itchy and sore and along the outside of the gum is all white. I can see a clot in there but it isn't level with the edge of my gum but below the edge, could I be in for some dry socket trouble?? or do you think it is just the healing process?

I hate to admit I am dental phobic, a great big scardy cat, only went as the pain while it was in was unbareable.

Please help, I don't want what was to me an easy extraction to turn into a long term pain thing.

Thanks in advance.

Answers:

Extraction sites heal from the bottom up. As it heals the site will become less and less of a divot. You would know if you have a dry socket or even a partial dry socket because it would hurt like the dickens. You sound like you are not in any pain, so I really wouldn't be all that concerned. It is part of the healing process. Itching may be due to food particles getting lodged in the healing socket, I would let it heal for a couple more days. You can start with warm salt water rinses after about a week . If the itching worsens or you notice the gum area getting more red and swollen contact your DDS.
