Tooth Extraction - Normal vs Abnormal Swelling?!

Question:

Tooth Extraction - Normal vs Abnormal Swelling?

Had 4 wisdom teeth pulled 48hrs ago - 3 are fine, 1 (lower right) they had problems with and also had to use sutures to stop the bleeding. There is quite a bit of swelling in that one area that extends down in to the next and back to about the tonsils (Makes me want to swallow). So the question is what is the difference between normal and abnormal swelling?

Answers:

Pat is absolutely correct, as I dentist myself this seems like an abnormal amount of sweeling to me. If you have any symptoms that Pat indicated please get to your local emergency room immediately as this can be extremely serious and even life threatening. Also try alternating cold and warm compresses to help control swelling, also Motrin works extremely well with not only helping to ease pain but also with inflammation.
