What is the hard white crust on the back of my teeth called?!

Question: While having my braces fitted a few days ago my orthodontist showed me that I have a hard white crust on the bottom of the back of my bottom teeth and that I should get my dentist to remove it, although I can't rememeber what it was called. What is it?

he may have called it Calculus, or tartar, it is hardened plaque, that has not been removed. It means that you are missing that rea when you are brushing...also you need to floss.....whoch can be a real pain in the but with braces on but it does need to be done, as there are long term affects of having it there, and your dental hygienist at your dentist's office can take care of it fairly fast with your cleaning appointment, also ask and she can show you some different ways to get in that area with your brushing and may have some tips on flossing with braces on. Good luck!

Plaque.

Its called plaque and is usually scraped off in a procedure called scaling.

Tartar and/or plaque

It is hardened plaque.
When your tooth brush doesn't do a good job of cleaning the plaque of your teeth, the plaque eventually hardens.
It isn't a big deal to remove, don't worry.

P.s. DONT FORGET TO FLOSS :)
