decay starts with decalsification. you may notice white spots on your teeth. then small indentations where enamel and calcium decaying. brown, black, or discolored spots on teeth show that the two outermost layers of your teeth have decayed enough to form a cavity that must be filled at the dentist. best way to prevent them? brush with a flouride toothpaste, FLOSS, and rinse with a non-alcohol mouthwash.

go to the dentist..
like why try to figure it out when they can do it for you.

i think your tooth is black on top

Depending on where it is in the tooth, you can sometimes see a hole or at least a bit of decay.

You should have a thin and small dark gash on it.

u will have a VERY small black spot sometimes. but sometimes u dont, sometimes the cavity could be inside the tooth and never surface i have 10 cavitys from having braces. well was 13 but now ts 10 XD on my face teeth and everything it sucks! depend on how servere the cavity is ur tooth wil become more sensitive to cold stuff and chewng. go to ur dentist and get xrays done.

You probably would notice cold and sweet sensitivity first and if you look at the tooth you may notice a white spot or a dark spot depending on how much decay you have .It really wont help to know because even the dentist will need to take an x-ray to repair so he will know how much decay is present and what type of restoration you would need .
