Has anyone ever had a molar pulled with just a local anesthetic instead of being put under???

Can anyone who has had this done this way please tell me what I will feel or hear and if it hurts during or after??? Please let me know. Thank you!

Answers:

Your dentist will make sure that the area is completely numb prior to starting the procedure. You will be able to feel some pressure, downward pushing and hear some popping or cracking sounds when he is luxating the tooth loose from the bone during the extraction. You should expect to feel this pressure and hear this noise so that you don't mistake it for pain, as some patients tend to do. They will also tell you that at any time during the procedure if you experience any pain or feel something sharp, you should raise your left hand and he will stop and administer more anesthetic. Your dentist is going to look out for your comfort during the procedure, trust him. So many patients come in as fearful as you are right now; when it's all over they realize it wasn't as bad as they thought it would be. There will be some discomfort following the extraction which is usually relieved with antibiotics, anti inflammatory and pain medication. Although in your case this may be altered somewhat due to the pregnancy; I'm sure your dentist has consulted with your OB for your treatment. You may also find as some patients do, that since this tooth has been so painful, that you may actually feel relief once it's removed. Follow all of your post op instructions for a speedy recovery, you'll do fine, relax. Good luck and I hope I've been of some help.
