My jaw locked twice this morning, and it took several minute to go back to norma!

Question: I woke up this morning and my jaw was automatically locked and it took around a minute or two to go back to normal, then it would lock again. In other words, because my parents say that can't happen... my jaw wouldn't let me open as wide as i could, and i didn't want to try real hard because i was afraid i might do something bad. Is this serious enough that i could possibly need medical attention or could there be other solutions? Why is it happening?
