Dentist want to charge close to $500 for "bone replace for ridge Prese/site!
Question: After pulling a bad tooth, he wants to do some kind of "bone graf or rebuilding' where my tooth USED TO BE.
Is this neccessary? or a waste of money because Insurance does not cover it.

If you remove a tooth, the teeth around it will start to fall into the empty place. Ask why he can't put in a false tooth.
The site below says if you don't do something, the bone you now have will melt away. Of course, it is a website by a dentist. I also included a university site that says the bone will deteriorate if a replacement is not done.
If your not planning on replacing the tooth....then yeah a waste of money. But if at some point you might want to get an implant crown you would need this. Also if someday you were to need dentures and you have no bone....then you would have no ridge. Which is what the denture would sit on and suction to. I would have another consult with the surgeon to make sure everyone is on the same page.
Dental Insurance does not generally cover only necessary procedures. Don't let insurance dictate what treatment you choose, let informed decisions. Talk with your dentist/ surgeon and ask why they feel it is needed, it could be any # of reasons from dentures, to implants or to save the neighboring teeth. Get a second opinion, or third, if you still have questions.
