Resin fillings - do they act differently?!

Question: Only some of my fillings are resin fillings, but they seem to be the only ones that hurt now when I chew on things. Is this a temporary condition? I've been otherwise happy with these fillings and one of them saved me from having to get a crown.

I've had problems with my teeth hurting as a result of recurrent sinus infections since Thanksgiving as well as a need for nearly constant cough drops due to a cough that wouldn't quit (bronchitis complications). All my teeth stopped hurting about 3 weeks ago except for 3 molars with resin fillings.

It is a two month wait to get into the dentist and I had been waiting to make an appointment because I couldn't get through it without coughing. That's died down enough now. The fillings are 5-8 years old.

It sounds like the resin fillings you have are quite lrge. This material is more porous than the amalgam filling allowing for more sensativity. It is a good idea to go back to the dentist and let him check to see if your bite is off a little. He might even suggest you use a flouride rinse to help with the sensaitvity.

Resin fillings or "tooth color" fillings are tricky. They are more attractive than Amalgam fillings but they often cause discomfort. Usually someone would complain days after having them put in and normally it would just be that the bite was off, but you're saying that they are at least 5 yrs. old.

Hmm...I would say that since ALL 3 teeth that have resin fillings are hurting, they probably just need adjusting.
