It's an uncommon but not unheard of benign condition. Your tongue may be more sensitive to hot/spicy food. It's sometimes associated with psoriasis.

It is a common condition that results in your tongue having the design of anything that it compresses. You will see the design of the inside of your teeth on your tongue or the roof of your mouth. There really isn't anything that can be done unfortunately ! Avoid spicy foods or you may find that your tongue gets really painful and sensitive.

It is a common variance of normal. Some people, like my husband, are born with this and will live their whole lives, while others will get it temporarily with an extreme illness no one knows why. It is where there are areas of the tongue with no/less papillae and this makes red patterns on the tongue that change patterns and get redder when spicy or sour foods are eaten. It can be uncomfortable, mainly in teenagers b/c hormones aggravate this and with sour or spicy foods.

The official term is benign migratory glossitis.
the changing pattern has to do with tastbuds shedding at different times. It is not contagious and does not mean you have any kind of disease.
For some people spicy foods does make it uncomfortable, but most people don't realize they have it until someone else mentions it.
If your tongue swells so much that you are getting impressions of your teeth around it, you might have some other type of infection. Usually this is not associated with geographic tongue.
