Deep Cleanings...?!

Question: Tomorrow I got to have the 2nd half of my mouth done and im very scared because after the 1st one i wouldnt eat for like 3days and it hurts way to much to drink anything cold anymore now i really dont want to go and before they tried to get me to buy this meds. (wasnt covered of course) and it was going to be like 180 for one side of my mouth so do u really think i need that. and right after the deep cleaning they are doing a reg.cleaning and it willbe my luck it will hurt as bad as the 1st one did because next week im going to get my braces on. Also does it hurt when you get braces on. Im mostly scared about tomorrow because they stick you 11times to get you numb and my denist is an *** so he yells at me when i start to tear up but what can i say im only 17.

I am a hygienist and I do at least 5 deep cleanings/week. It sounds reasonable to me that they are doing it in2 visits(in most cases, this is how the insurance companies want it done too, or they won't pay for it if you get it all done at once). Imagine how hard it would be on you if they did it all in one visit. The regulat cleaning that comes after is pretty much a follow up and that's what I do too. 11 injections...wow, that sounds like a little too much for 1/2 of the mouth only...7 is usually the most that I do. I have to admit that this seems like a lot of work for a person your age, the numbing part is always hard but makes you comfortable during the procedure. Pain is to be expected after the deep cleaning, usually it is mild if not any at all. You want to take anti-inflammatory pain killers to reduce the infection if in pain and also keep up with your home care (brush at least 2x, floss at least 1x) and use an antimicrobial mouthwash. As far as braces, I don't work in that area but I don't think it hurts, I have 8yr old pts with braces and they seem ok.
