if you lance it you will get most of the infection out, just be careful not to make too large an incision, or it will take a long time to heal and make the infection worse. you need antibiotics to get it fully and possibly a root treatment for the tooth, unless its a gum abcess.

it will hurt alot more than it already does if you do lance it so be prepared for the pain. and i do advise that you try and hold off until you see the dentist. take some co-codamol if your not allergic to it and take a salty mouthwash, cup of hot water as hot as you can handle and a teaspoon of salt.

if you do go down the route of bursting it yourself you probably wont get all the infection out, or may cause it to get worse in the long term with only short term relief.

so best advice no wait till tomorrow.

i have seen people who have burst it themselves and caused alot of trauma to the gums, but i have seen some who have managed to accidentally burst it and its helped the situation. its a risk you are taking if you burst it incase of damage to the soft tissues.

if i saw/talked to you in the surgery i would not tell you not to burst it.

go ahead, seriously, whats the worst that can happen? It can't be that much worse than having a pimple in your mouth..

no you would make it more painful and probably get an infection

Well I'm not a professional, but when my brother was younger he got abcesses, and my Mum got rid of them for him... I don't see why you can't - sounds like you're being hygienic anyway, so it should be fine.

No I would leave it alone, you may cause more infection if you lance it yourself, take paracetomal and cuprofen at the same time to ease the pain.

I would go ahead, afterwards keep massaging the area with your tongue. PS salt water always makes a good mouth wash

Meant salt water for after the deed! Get on with it!

Would wait till tomorrow!! Iy is isolated now in a sac. See the DR DMD here

Just take anti inflammatory drugs-ibuprofen to reduce the pain and inflammation and see the dentist tomorrow. The anti bacterial mouthwash will only stay in your mouth, what if the infection travels in your blood when you pop it? You might need antibiotics

I had this problem once go ahead and lance it!! the pain ur feeling is the build up of puss.see ur dentist asap 4 a prescription 4 the infection causing the abcess

This is a BAD idea....it will only lead to more problems. Leave it be and allow the professional (dentist) to do his/her job. It will get terrribly infected and be way more painful. Just continue with the pain meds and swish with warm salt water and a numbing agent.

Keep on washing your mouth out with very hot very salty water ... as hot as you can bear. this will draw the inflammation out.

t.c.p.anticeptic mouthwash, tastes ghastly but works every time .

why do you want to lance it. it is better for you to gaggle with salt and warm water regularly at least 8 times daily before your visit to the dentist, u can also use analgesics too to help relieve the pain. leave the abscess for the dentist to take care of, so u dont get serious infections.

do not lance it, that is infection and can sprea through yor body. if it hits your brain your as good as dead.

i went to my dr when i got a bad gum abcess i got referred to hosp it was such a bad abcess my face swelled up real bad anyway i had to get an operation and was in hosp for 3 or 4 days after i came out of operating theatre i had a bag draining all the pus and blood out of it ive been told if didnt get op i could have ended up with septecemia or septic shock so please do not treat it yourself please go to dentist and your doctor please x

No you will need a course of antibiotics and it can turn into septicaemia if left untreated.
