Cold water/fruits on tooth that was filled?!

Question:

Cold water/fruits on tooth that was filled?

Hello,

My molar was filled because it had a cavity about 2 years ago, Now every time i drink something cold it hurts. Do I need a root canal? Even if i eat a cool banana it may hurt.

Answers:

This is not enough information to make a diagnosis. One of these people said the nerve could be touching the filling. They clearly do not know anything about dentistry or teeth. There are several things that could be going on. The filling may simply need to be smoothed off. Tooth and filling do not wear at the same rate so the occlusion (which is the way the teeth come together) may be off. This can make the tooth sensitive to cold. Or, the nerve may be dying in this tooth. There are some tests that your dentist can do to see if this is the case. Or, you may have developed some decay around the edges of the filling. These are all things that will make your tooth senstive to cold. These are also things that you cannot figure out yourself. You are going to have to see a dentist. Without examining and xraying the tooth, no one is going to be able to tell you what is wrong. Sorry
