As a dentist myself, I recommend calling your dentist to see if she/he thinks that a prescription for pain medication would be beneficial. If not, try using Orajel around the gum line and use cold compresses as needed to help numb the area affected. Motrin also works very well, it will help with pain and also inflammation. If the pain continues or becomes worse think about calling your dentist's emergency number or taking a visit to your local ER. Good Luck!
