My friend has a bubble with blood in it near her tooth, what is it?!

Question: My friend has really BAD teeth. Cavities and probably a few abscess teeth. I think on the last one... Anyways, She says that she can feel a whole in her tooth and that every time she eats something this bump right next to the tooth on her gum, swells up! She says she it starts to decrease in size that it has blood that comes from it. I looked at it and it to me, KIND of looks like a Canker sore...only.. not...? She's an immigrant so she has no insurance, and she has a heart/muscle disease so I can't take her to a normal dentist anyways..... I really NEED to know what this is. She says it's always causing her pain and it's become hard for her to even eat an extremely well cooked tender roast...

What is it...?

It's an abscess draining from the roots of the tooth, and bursting thru the bone and gum, a bit like a pimple. She needs either an extraction or a root canal therapy.
She might still be able to get treatment by a standard general dentist despite her heart/muscle disease - you don't specify what this is so I can only guess but if she's previously had endocarditis then prompt treatment is important.
If she takes antibiotics and waits for the infection to subside, this may not work, and is only increasing the likelihood of the bacteria developing resistance, and then more and more antibiotics will fail until she ends up in hospital. She should seek immediate TREATMENT. After all, if you had an infected splinter in your skin, would you treat it with antibiotics until the swelling went down, or would you get the splinter out first, and then antibiotics if necessary?
If she's a friend, perhaps you can offer to pay her dental bill to get her out of this immediate trouble?

It's a tooth abcess. The blood is mixed with puss, which is a bacterial infection needing an antibiotic. Suggest she go to a walk in clinic since a dentist can't do anything until the infection clears up.

i think its a boil. one of my friends dads has one, he couldn't get an appointment at the dentist for another 2 weeks so he had to make a whole in the lump to let out all the poison. tell your "friend" that she needs to go to the dentist immediatly before she gets more serious problems like gum disease.....

it sounds like it's an abcess. The treatment is antibiotics.

There are city health clinics in many cities that can give her a clinic card where she may pay a small amount to get seen by a dentist.
These clinics help even if you an immigrant.
In Austin , texas there is a place called Manos De Cristo it is just for illegal immigrants it is a dental clinic
Find out if you have 211 in your area tell them the situation and they will tell you where to go address and phone numbers to places. GOOD LUCK
