Crown on tooth and still in pain!!!?

i have had a permanent crown fitted,it stil aches now and again,i can feel the join at the back of the tooth but it looks ok at the front.my gum at the front where it meets the crown isnt pink though its whitish grey.why is this and is it normal to ache still its been on now for around 3 weeks so not new.can i have the root taken out of the stump now without removing the crown?will this stop the pain.i also tried using sensedene but it doesnt stop the dull ache

i got my hubby to look at the backof the crown and he said the line where the crown joins the tooth is black what is that?

Where the crown meets the tooth and you see the black line-it is done that way for a reason. The black line is the metal coping that the porcelain is baked onto. The reason you see it is because it is above your gumline. If the DDS. placed it below the gumline, you could have chronic inflamation and bleeding there. Being above the gumline allows you to keep it clean with brushing and flossing. As to needing a root canal, yes it can be done through the biting surface of the crown. See your dentist, have them take a xray of the root tip of the tooth. It is possible that the tooth may have an abcess hence the need for the root canal. As for the pain, have you returned to the dentist for him/her to adjust the bite? It may be hitting high and would then cause sensitivity. Good Luck.
