Veneer or crown?!

Question: I had knocked myself unconscious when I was about 10 and broke my tooth in half. Embaressing as hell for me, but anyway..

It's been ten years and the bond is wearing down. I go back to the dentist in April and they said they would do a veneer or a crown. Which would be the better choice?

This option may not even be up to you. What your dentist probably meant is:
"if we can do a veneer we will, but if we have to do a crown that will work also."
A veneer is much more conservative and after being replaced a couple of times will eventually turn into a crown.
A crown after being replaced will eventually turn into a bigger crown.
Dentistry does not last forever and when they are redone more tooth structure is taken away- you eventually run out.
So, be as conservative as possible to meet your goals.

veneer is a better option ,it is more natural

The crown will be stronger, and will last longer.

I have one, and it is very easy to live with.

Depending on how much tooth structure is still there, a veneer would be better. A crown requires that more tooth be cut away and does not best preserve the integrity of the tooth. With a veneer a smaller amount of tooth structure is shaved away.

A CROWN!!!

Especially since you are saying that you broke your tooth in half! Veneers are really only for covering roughness or discoloration or un-evenness on the SURFACE of the tooth. For more severe tooth damage, a crown would be more appropriate.

I hope you have insurance. If you don't, it's still worth paying for a crown because you will save yourself the money AND pain of having to go back a few years from now to have that tooth worked on. If you get veneers now, a dentist in the future will suggest a crown... so just get the crown now and get it over with.

I suggest getting a crown, they are cheaper and last a long time.

Veneer is recommended, if your bite is NOT hard, as it requires less space than crown, so the treatment will be more conservative also. Anyway, if you have teeth grinding , the crown will be much stronger. (bangkok smile :)
