Yes, diet coke can stain and cause cavities, but not nearly as fast a regular. Diet coke b/c it is dark colored can stain teeth, but using a whitening toothpaste or rinse will prevent this, along with good oral hygiene. Diet coke does not contain sugar, so it does not cause cavities that way, but it does have an acid pH, so if you drink it constantly all day it will weaken the enamel and eventually cause a cavity. Just be sure to just drink it and be done. Yes, drinking through a straw does help prevent some of the staining. Just don't carry a 20oz bottle around all day and sip it.

any dark colored drinks can stain the teeth. my dentist told me to avoid this, to definately use a straw. this prevents the drink from directly passing over the front teeth.

I don't know about staining your teeth, but according to my dental hygenist, drinking soda (even diet) can weaken your teeth because of the acidity of the soda.

It most likely will stain, due to its color. Rinse your mouth with water after drinking it. Then when you brush your teeth use baking soda to help whiten.
