Half of bottom lip still numb a day later....help!?!

Question:

Half of bottom lip still numb a day later....help!?

I had all four wisdom teeth removed yesterday, early in the morning. A few hours later I wasn't numb anymore but one half of my bottom lip is still numb todday, as well as part of my chin. Every so often I feel a slight twitch or tingly feeling in it but it still isn't back to normal. This is making me worry that it will stay like this. If anyone could share their similar experiences and tell me how long it took for it to get back to normal for you, I would appreciate it. I need to put my mind at ease. Thank you.

Answers:

What you are experiencing in called parathesia (prolonged numbness). This is very common in extractions of lower wisdom teeth especially if the main nerve of the jaw (which goes to your lower lip and chin) is close to the roots. The swelling from the extraction will put pressure on the nerve causing you to feel numb. The fact that you are getting a tingling sensation is good because that means sensation is slowly coming back. Hang in there and when the swelling subsides the sensation should begin to come back.
