Do kids get enough flouride from toothpast if they are drinking water with none?!
Question:
Do kids get enough flouride from toothpast if they are drinking water with none?
Answers:
Fluoride is the best defense against cavities.
Injested fluoride helps to strengthen teeth that are developing below the gumline. This comes in the form of fluoridated water from the tap, from a bottle or a fluoride supplement.
Topical fluoride helps the teeth that are erupted and above the gumline. Application of fluoride from the dentist every 6 months, rinses and toothpastes are examples of how this type if fluoride is applied.
There is growing debate about the "safety" of fluoride, but the ADA still recommends fluoride to aid in the prevention of cavities. And from personal experience working in a pediatric dental office, I have seen first hand the difference in oral health between patients exposed with fluoride here in the states compared to those patients from outside of the US. Those not getting fluoride regularly, typically have a mouthful of severe cavities.
