Mercury metal?!

Question:

Mercury metal?

I was in the counselor's office and one lady who works there as assistant was asking me, what I wanted to become in the future and I told her dentist.

She responed by saying, "Don't put mercury metal on people's mouth."

what she means by that? I know there is a mercury poison. Did she mean don't put poison on people's mouth? why would I do that?

Answers:

Amalgam is the name of the metal filling material. Peolple have for years now scared patients into not getting the metal fillings because of mercury poisoning. There has never been any proof that mercury in tooth filling has any effect on your health. In fact, more mercury is found in the sea, and in fish you eat than in your tooth.

Good luck if you do decide to become a dentist.
