Baby tooth at 19?!

Question: I still have 2 baby teeth on the bottom the third one from the back without counting the wisdom teeth. I was told that I don't have any permanent teeth and that the baby teeth will come out and if my wisdom teeth were to come in then all the teeth would get moved up so that there would be room for them. Now where one of my baby teeth is the gum is sore, the tooth is not moving at all and for the past few days it's kinda swollen and now I noticed there's a red spot on the gum and I have no idea what is going on. The dentist can't see me for the next few months if anyone has any ideas what it could be that would be good.

Baby teeth don't always have another tooth under them. When this happens the baby tooth doesn't always have the helping hand of the successor to come out and therefore stays in place. This usually leads to ankylosis- which means the tooth and the bone surrounding it fuse. When this happens the tooth will not likely move (even with braces).
It's not normal (obviously), but it's not uncommon either.
As for the sore gums, have you had popcorn recently - sometimes food gets stuck (popcorn is the most common culprit) and causes a small infection.
Best bet is to see a dentist- as you already know; if you are in pain, or worried then say that when you call- they should be able to squeeze you in withing a couple of days. If they can't call another dentist and see if they can see you.
Good Luck.

it could be the beginning of an absess. that means you have a cavity that needs to get filled that is infected. you may need a crown. also it could be gingivitis. try flossing and using listerine. see if that helps.

Well thats pretty rare to have baby teeth at 19, but maybe if you tried to wiggle the teeth everyday they will eventually get loose. I remember when I was younger the dentist was going to have to pull one tooth of mine, but I wiggled it everyday and it eventually came out. If that doesn't work then you might be able to make an emergency appointment to have it looked at, I know they'll probably let you come in if you tell them that its swollen.

If it gets worse and are feeling real discomfort I would look in to seeing a urgent care dental center since your dentist cant find way to see you. But it sounds like you do have another tooth coming in.

Even is it hurts make sure you floss around that tooth.

Also swish Listerine around in your mouth to kill germs.

It sounds like you have an infection. Antibiotics will help, but go see a dentist. You may need to have it removed. Your teeth will shift forward, but they usually aren't straight without braces. I see a lot of people with this issue. Try to get in ASAP.

Don't worry have seen much older patients retain ther baby teeth sometimes they last longer than the person!! Doc W
