How long should I wait to have a cig after oral surgery?!

Question: I had seven teeth removed tuesday afternoon.I don't want to hear that I should quit.I've been a smoker for thirteen years and I already know that.Just want to avoid dry sockets.I'll wait as long as I have to but it sucks. The nurse said to try to wait a little while and I don't know how long that is.

Hey, suck those stogies man, it's your lungs not anyone Else's...As for how long you need to be on the nonsmoking wagon following the extractions, that depends on your overall health. Are you a quick healer as a rule? You just need to know that dry sockets are no fun and if avoiding one or more requires you leave the butts in your pocket for as long as ten day's, that would be a smooth move on your part. By the way were you also told to lay off drinking from a straw or small ,mouth bottle such as Texas Tea comes in (Beer)? Any suction you create can dislodge one or more of the blood clots that protects you from having a dry socket. Be safe not sorry, give it ten days.

you will dry out the sockets and the clot will fall out..
that is why they tell you no smoking or sucking through a straw and no spitting....

maybe you should think about quitting smoking

wait at least 12 hours because believe me, a dry socket is so painful that it is worth the wait.

Call a quit line. If you went to the trouble to get oral surgery, why ruin your mouth even further?

Forever.

Maybe a good time to quit, you could not only avoid dry socket, but extend your life and breathe better. To answer your question, you should wait 4-5 days to avoid getting dry socket.
