Is sugar free-carbonated water harmful to tooth enamel?!

Question:

Is sugar free-carbonated water harmful to tooth enamel?

I know that drinking sodas can contribute to loss of tooth enamel, does this apply to carbonated water also?

Answers:

This is a good one... I took my 4yr old son to a dentist who said his teeth are really bad and he would expect to see that type of damage in a 6yr old. I told the dentist that he has no sugary drinks and brushes like clockwork. When I explained what my son had instead of sugary drinks, I was told this was the problem. My son regularly drinks sugar free carbonated peach water. He told me there and then that that was the trouble. He said it was the fizz in it and to get him still water instead. I was gob smacked! Since then I've also learned that the acid in citrus type drinks is bad too. You think you are giving your children a healthier alternative and it all blows up in your face. Well hope I've helped!
