How long after having a crown does it still hurt?!

Question: I got my crown almost a week ago and I'm still having to take Tylenol several times a day. It is also so very sensitive to heat and cold. Is this normal or should I see my dentist??

Yes this can be normal. People experience anything from no pain to extremely sensitive/painful for weeks after having a crown done. If you have a temporary crown on it now, it could be too high when you bite down which would not allow the tooth to feel better. If this is the case you should call your dentist so they can adjust it. Because a temporary crown is not as good of an insulator as a permanent crown is, it does tend to make the tooth more sensitive to hot and cold. The hot and cold sens. is pretty normal. If the tooth continues to be a problem for you the only thing left to do is a root canal. Some dentists automatically do a root canal before they do a crown to prevent this kind of problem, but it adds a lot to the cost of treatment! As long as the crown is not too high in your bite there is no harm in waiting it out. The best thing to take for pain after a crown is 800mg Ibuprofen, like Mortin. 4 tablets of over the counter equals one prescription strengh. Every person and every tooth reacts differently to having a tooth prepared for a crown. Don't hesitate to call your dentist though if you just can't put up with the pain! Hope it settles down soon!

go back to your dentist cant believe you are still in pain i never had this problem and if you get no joy change your dentist as thid does not seem right
