Wisdom Teeth???!
Question: I am getting my wisdom teeth pulled out on saturday, and i am super nervous!! I am getting the shots and the laughing gas, all 4 are impacted and the 2 top ones are still in the gums and the 2 bottom ones u can see but are not fully out yet. I am so scared and they do not offer to put me to sleep. Any advice??
PS. I have an industrial peircing in my ear they told me they would have to take it out to do some kind of x-ray, will it be ok if i take it out I just got it done on Sat night its swollen but im scared it might close!! Any advice would be appreciated!

Put your mind to rest, you don't have to worry about getting the wisdom teeth out. Some years ago I passed from the same experience. I had a painful gum and couldn't even eat properly. I went to the dentist but since it was around Christmas they were with the shutdown. I could not wait any more without doing nothing. So I went to another dentist and after examining my gums he told me that all the trouble is coming from the wisdom tooth. I had it out and it was like switching off the pain I had. The dentist explained that the wisdom teeth mostly give trouble and they don't grow like the other molars but remain just half way and this is more dangerous. Also most of them as it was my case there wasn't enough space in the gums for them to grow and so the other teeth feel like squeezed and start to feel painful especially when eating. The dentist told me that since the wisdom teeth are the last ones in the gums they don't have any necessity for chewing and with them or without them it is the same. I was advised to leave some time and get the other wisdom teeth out also. That is what I did. and It is better and they made no difference but saved myself from future pain.
It is almost normal that they don't grow up like the others and so I tell you not to be afraid to get them out. You may be afraid of the shots. It is only a small punch. The dentist know where he has to put it without feeling any extra pain. If you keep the fear in you you will feel hurt without even the dentist doing anything because it is all in the mind. I think that a shot on each side is enough and there's no need of any gas. It is not usual that for plucking a tooth they put you to sleep. Come on, there is no need for that. But if you are so afraid then discuss it with your dentist.
If there is need for x-rays to be taken from the side and you have the earrings they have to be taken out because they will show in the x-ray and so can give false readings. You don't have to worry that the nearly pierced holes will close eventhough they are still fresh. Afterall it will be only a matter a few minutes or less for the x-rays to be taken and it is not enough time for the hole to close again. As soon as you are ready just put them on again as soon as possible.
So go on and have your wisdom teeth pulled out. You will get rid of any future pain and take your earrings off just for the small period that the x-ray is being taken.

Just take out the piercing just before you go. Put some rubbing alcohol on it. Then put it back in when you get home. It should not have time to close.
You could tell your Dr you'd feel better being put under, but really you won't mind at all with the laughing gas.
I was terribly nervous about getting mine pulled. Everyone told me haw bad it was. Yeah, it was NOTHING. I slept alot after it, but the next day I was eating normal food, carefully of course.
The pain was nothing. I gave my pain pills away, never even used them.
And your piercing probably will close, they dont HAVE to take it out. I had peircings in that I refused to take out and they did the surgery anyway.
Its only during the xray that you cant wear piercings!

I got my wisdom teeth taken out in November. It didn't really hurt that bad, actually. I had to get my tongue clipped, too and that hurt worse than anything. I was put under...I would think since they're all impacted they'll have to put you under. It's surgery. Maybe ask them for an IV. I was scared of the IV, but it's actually pretty cool when you fall asleep. Good luck. They usually give you pain pills, too, but I didn't even need them.
I worked for an oral surgeon, and I've probably seen eighty or ninety wisdom teeth extractions, including my best friend's. If yours are impacted, it's for the best that you're getting them removed. My lucky brother only had two, but I had all four, and recovery time varies. It only took him about two days, whereas I was in bed for two weeks. If you're getting the anesthesia, make SURE that you take some antacids the night before to prevent nausea. Drink lots of water so your veins are fat and the IV goes in nicely. After the extraction when you go home (get someone to drive you there and back, naturally; you'll be too wasted) SLEEP. When you start to feel hungry, eat nothing but very soft food and nothing too acidic; that could upset your stomach or irritate the stitches in your mouth. Those will be annoying, but they'll dissolve on their own in a few weeks. Don't disturb them with your tongue; otherwise, you could have to go back to your OS and have them re-done.
Last thing: relax. Get this done now, and you'll never have to worry about it again as long as you live.
EDIT: Oh, and about the piercings. They only need to take those out for x-rays, from what I recall.
I am having one or two of my wisdom teeth taken out on Wed. My dentist prescribed me Triazolam to take the night before and an hour before my appointment. Triazolam is a sedative mainly used to help people whom have trouble sleeping. The pharmacist explained that Triazolam calms your nerves. So you could ask your dentist if this could be an option for you.
