Retainer help?!

Question: OK I have a top and bottom removable retainer. I got my braces off yesterday. The ortho told me to wear both 24/7 and they are making my teeth sore during the day and they give me a lisp. Do you think I would be ok just wearing them at night or just wearing the top one all day and the bottom one in at night. Please help when my braces got off i was hoping to be done with pain and it feels like i get my braces tightened every hour now. = ( This sucks after having 5 years of WANTING a retainer and braces off now id rather have em back on.

Hi there, When I had my braces taken off, my dentist told me that once the braces are removed, it is a very delicate time. Your teeth are loose from all the movement over the years. You MUST wear them 24 hours a day and take them off only when you eat. The lisping will go away in a few days. Perhaps the retainers are covered over your gums too much as well. If so, you can get them trimmed a bit . In a week or so, you'll get used to it. After a few months, I then only needed to wear them at night time. Congratulations on getting them off. Isn't it wonderful to eat without braces?
